Substrate Preparation

Structural Maintenance Systems provide a range of substrate preparation systems to best fit the type of contamination encountered for repair, coating and maintenance applications.

Correct substrate preparation is the fundamental basis to the application of repair and protection systems for concrete, masonry and steel.

Mechanical Scabbling / Planing

  • Used for both surface preparation and heavy duty planing work
  • Ideal preparation technique for texturing concrete and asphalt
  • Removal of paint, rust, grease, ice deposits, line markings, and concrete laitance
  • Concrete reduction and scabbling
  • Removal of waterproof membranes from bridge and car park decks
  • Tungsten Carbide Tipped (TCT) Cutters, hardened steel body with tungsten carbide points brazed into the body - suitable for all concrete texturing, scabbling, planing, and grooving applications.
  • Beam Flails, heat treated cutters for the removal of paint coatings and laitance from new concrete. Also for removing grease, dirt and ice deposits.
Used in conjunction with Industrial vacuum Units to reduce or eliminate dust emissions

Diamond Grinding

Diamond Grinders use diamond segments to cut into floors and coatings, creating a perfect surface profile for coating applications, re-profiling of old concrete floors, removal of surface contaminants and adhesives.

Different profiles of diamond segments can be used ranging from;
  • Rough profile - for eliminating lipping in concrete joints etc.
  • Medium profile for general surface preparation, removal of old floor coatings and adhesives.
  • Very fine profiled segments for polishing concrete and stone.
Used in conjunction with Industrial vacuum Units to reduce or eliminate dust emissions

Grit Blasting / High-Pressure Water-Jet Blasting

Wet and Dry Blast substrate preparation, used in conjunction with surface texturing abrasives is an exceptional method for cleaning, corrosion removal, roughening and etching of concrete, masonry and steel.

Ideal system for portable applications.

For concrete repair applications / preparation of reinforcing steel – a dry blast technique using synthetic abrasives is a perfect method for cleaning reinforcing steel prior to the application of an anti-corrosion primer.

High-Pressure Water-Jet Blasting

For removal of surface contaminants, graffiti, algae and thorough hygienic cleaning generally to most hard surfaces.
